Paste one snippet and your website talks

Putting a talking agent on your own website takes one tag pasted into your site and one proof that the site is yours. This post walks the embed page that hands you both, in the order you will use it, and ends with how to take it off again.
What you need before you start
Three things, and you probably have them already.
- A published agent. A private agent does not answer anyone on your site. If you have not pressed Publish agent yet, do that first on the agent's Deploy page.
- A way to edit your site. Either you can edit its code, or you can at least add a custom code block to it.
- An https:// address. Your site has to run on https://. Plain http:// addresses are refused.
Open the embed page
From the dashboard, open your agent's Deploy page and press Open Embed Kit. The page that opens is headed "Put your agent's name on your own website" and has two steps. If your Deploy page has no Open Embed Kit button, the embed page is not switched on for your account yet.
Step 1: copy the tag
The first card is headed Paste this tag into your website. Press Copy code; the button reads Copied for a moment when it worked.
Keep every value in the tag exactly as written. It carries your agent's name, and the chat looks your agent up by it.
Paste it, on one line and unchanged, just before </body> on each page where you want the agent. On a plain HTML page, that is the last thing inside the body:
<body>
<h1>Welcome</h1>
<!-- paste the tag from Step 1 here -->
</body>
If your site is made with a site builder, look for its custom code, embed or footer code block and paste the tag there, set to load on every page you want the agent on.
You can paste before you verify. Pasting first breaks nothing: the chat bubble appears and, until your site is verified, tells visitors the door is closed instead of replying.
Step 2: add your site's address and verify it
The second card is headed Add your website and verify it.
- Type your site's address into Website address, for example
https://your-site.com. The address only, no page path. Press Request this site, and it joins the list marked pending. If your site answers on bothyour-site.comandwww.your-site.com, add both. - Under the address, open Verify ownership and activate chat. It shows a file address on your site, ending in
/.well-known/netshow-origin.txt, and the exact text that file must hold. Publish that text file at that address. It has to open directly, without redirecting. - Press Verify and activate. When the check passes, the address is marked active and the chat on your site starts answering. If it fails, the page says why; fix the file and press it again.
That small text file is the proof. It is how NetShow knows the site is yours before your agent answers anyone on it.
Step 3: let it speak first
Once an address is active, a switch appears beside it: Speak first on this site. Press it to turn it on. Then go back to Step 1, press Copy code again, and replace the tag on your site with the new one. After verification the tag carries the extra setting that lets the agent speak first.
Speaking first is set per site, so you can have it on for one address and off for another. Press the switch again to turn it off. If the agent is not public, the switch tells you: "Make your agent public so it can speak." If you do not see the switch, speaking first is not switched on for your account yet; the chat bubble still works.
With speaking first on, a panel docks at the bottom right with your agent's face, and the greeting appears as a caption straight away. It is spoken out loud from the visitor's first tap, and the browser asks their permission before the agent can hear them.
If nothing shows
Most problems are one of four things.
-
The address is still pending. Open Verify ownership and activate chat and finish the check. Make sure the address you added matches the one in your browser's bar, including
www.. - The agent is private. Publish it from the Deploy page.
- The old tag is on the site. If speaking first is on but the agent only shows a bubble, copy the tag again from Step 1 and replace the one on your site.
-
A strict Content-Security-Policy. If your site sets that header, a strict policy stops the browser loading the tag at all. Your site's
script-srchas to allowhttps://app.netshow.aiso the tag can load,connect-srcso the chat can answer, andframe-srcso the speaking panel can open.
How to take it off
You stay in charge of where your agent answers. On the embed page, press the × beside the address in the list; its label reads "Withdraw" and the address. The page confirms the address has been withdrawn, and the chat on that site stops answering. Removing the tag from your site takes the bubble away as well.
FAQ
Do I need a developer to do this?
Not if you can add a custom code block to your site. The tag goes in once, just before </body>, or in your site builder's custom code, embed or footer block.
Why do I have to publish a text file?
It is the proof that the site is yours. The embed page shows the file address, ending in /.well-known/netshow-origin.txt, and the exact text it must hold. Until the check passes, the chat on your site does not answer.
Does it work on http:// sites?
No. Your site has to run on https://. Plain http:// addresses are refused.
I turned on speaking first but only see a bubble. What now?
Copy the tag again from Step 1 and replace the one on your site. After verification the tag carries the extra setting that lets the agent speak first.
How do I remove it?
Press the × beside the address on the embed page to withdraw it, and the chat on that site stops answering. Removing the tag from your site takes the bubble away as well.
Put your agent on your website
This post covered the embed page in the order you meet it. The full guide in our help centre walks the same three steps with the exact button labels, shows a whole HTML page with the tag in place, and explains what a visitor meets once speaking first is on. Keep it open in one tab while you work on your site in the other, and go step by step. It takes about five minutes to read.
